AGNES is a design and development solution for under-water compressed air energy storage
Underwater compressed air energy storage (UW-CAES) means that the irregular production of power from marine turbines can be absorbed. This process can also be applied to decongest the electricity transport network, as basic energy (typically nuclear) can be stored at key times and released during consumption peaks at similar cost to and in similar volume conditions as an energy transfer station. This method of storage also means that several hundreds of MWh can be released into the electricity network as required.
The innovative solution provided by AGNES has been the subject of several patents.
Advantages of AGNES
- Transforms irregular energy into "peak electricity"
- Increases the spread of renewable energy
- Decongests insular or peninsula networks
- Increases the overcapacity of nuclear energy in off-peak hours
