Job description
The PV Project Development Engineer is responsible for development phase engineering activities in the PV Onshore Power team in France. This person will focus on supporting the French business development team and engineering manager.
- Support the business development team in the screening and evaluation of solar PV project opportunities.
- Manage external engineering consultants to support technical due diligence, feasibility assessments and studies and surveys required to secure construction permits
- Identify, record, mitigate and monitor project risks and upside opportunities.
- Prepare and review optimized preliminary project designs and specifications compliant with applicable internal and external codes and standards.
- Prepare/review technical documents for permit and grid/interconnection applications, agreements, etc.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. project development partners to monitor and manage the development of projects being developed for Shell).
- Prepare project capex/opex cost estimations.
- Use PVsyst and other modeling software to create energy yield estimates.
- Manage internal interfaces with global/regional engineering, delivery and asset management teams.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of applicable project engineering, construction and performance issues as well as evaluation of new technologies.
Profil
Skills
- More than 5 years’ hands-on experience in the French renewable power sector, specifically solar PV.
- Broad and in-depth technical and market knowledge of solar PV power plant development and engineering. Equivalent onshore wind/energy storage engineering knowledge is a plus.
- Experience in techno-economic optimization of solar projects.
- Experience in managing technical consultants, owners’ engineers and independent engineers.
- Familiarity with EPC and O&M contracts, as well as with construction of solar projects.
- Good understanding of grid connection processes and technical requirements.
- Good understanding of permitting requirements for solar projects.
- Good understanding of project economics, value chain and project development.
- Local network with equipment OEMs, developers, DNOs/TSO, consultants.
- University degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred.

- Ability to understand the strategic context of work and adapt to changing business and market needs
- Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time and being able to work efficiently and productively in remote locations.
- Culturally sensitive and ability to build strong relationships with Shell, partners and stakeholders.

- Strong communication skills, being able to present their idea within technical and non-technical audience.
- Fluent in English and French. Ability to speak other languages is a plus.
- Hold a valid driver’s license
